I Need a New Battery

Laptop owners know that a huge part of owning one is the ability for it to be portable. Not being tethered to a wall outlet is a large part of why some people forgo desktops altogether and stick with their slimmer, lighter counterparts. The reason laptops are able to do this is because of their internal battery. Without it, they essentially become desktops with screens. However, not every laptop that refuses to charge has a battery issue. Computer repair shops often hear “all it needs is a new battery” from customers whose laptops only run when plugged in. Unfortunately, that is not always true. Power issues come in many forms, and the battery is but a part of the system that keeps you running when you are away from a desk.

There is a big difference between a computer not charging and one that will not turn on. If everything seems to work fine, but the battery level just stays at 0%, chances are the battery may indeed be bad. If the computer does not turn on, that is a different story. The problem could be any number of things, from a DC jack issue, motherboard problem, or even the AC adapter. The best thing to do in that scenario is to take the laptop to a computer repair shop and let them assess the issue. They will run diagnostic testing to help get to the root of the problem and then let you know what can be done to fix it. They can also help you with data recovery and even the purchase of a new or refurbished laptop if the damage is extensive.

A battery swap is one of the computer repairs that many people attempt on their own, as it seems simple at first glance. But there can be a lot more to it than just taking out one battery and replacing it with another. For instance, ordering the correct battery is crucial, and requires knowledge of part numbers and proper voltages for the machine. Replacing a battery with the wrong one or one of low quality can be very detrimental to the laptop itself. Also, the components and motherboard connections inside a computer are very fragile, not to mention there are various ways for someone to end up getting shocked if they are not careful. When it comes to repairing power issues with a computer, it is best to leave it in the hands of professionals at a computer repair shop!

If your laptop is not charging correctly, not turning on, acting odd, or even bulging at the seams, chances are you have a power issue in one way or another. Do yourself a favor and get it checked out at a computer repair shop to avoid further headache and/or damage to the machine. Electricity is not something to mess with, and these sorts of cases are no exception!
